Jodhpur discom has been constantly reducing losses. In the just concluded financial year, out of the total 11 circles, we have been able to make profits in 7 circles – Jodhpur city, Pali, Sirohi, Barmer, Jaisalmer Ganganagar and Hanumangarh. The credit goes to steps taken under the ‘Mukhyamantri Vidyut Sudhar’ programme.
In last three years, there has been reduction in transmission losses. The current losses are around 18-19% as against 25% the time when I joined three years back. In last 2-3 years lots of steps have been taken including better feeder management.
The transformation in discom
It’s the human resource which matters. We achieved this target because of the motivated manpower. We encourage officials to work hard and we reward their performances. For example we rewarded all the employees of a subdivision which replaced the complete defective meters of that subdivision. Then we selected various categories and works where we can reward employees for better output. There is a board placed outside my office which carries photographs of best performers, helpers, junior engineers, across the categories who have performed exceptionally well. This motivation is working well for employees as well as the discom.
Plan to reduce electricity theft which is generally make discoms bleed?
Electricity theft is a perpetual problem. We have to communicate better with consumers. We held large number of camps and distributed connections in urban areas in Jodhpur city, in parts of Sri Ganganagar. Once a person has connection, there is less incentive to do theft.
We also organise awareness programmes in schools where our officials interact with students and inform them about electricity -how it works, how to use it safely. We also share with them about the risk involved in stealing electricity. We organise oath taking ceremonies also where we try to involve more and more children.[Courtesy: DNA]
