Ghaziabad tops in power theft

Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited [UPPCL] reports that Ghaziabad district tops in power theft cases in Uttar Pradesh, India. This state is notorious for criminal cases and so is the case of Power theft. Power theft is a compoundable offence in India and hence the vigor of Electricity At 2003 is diluted. The crime has thus reduced to its status as a mere traffic violence case

Loni, Modinagar and Muradnagar etc reports  70% of power theft cases involving  Rs 900 Million INR per annum.Such a small  district having  area of sq.km, eats away a large quantum of public exchequer by way of power theft. Even Government department do not pay electricity charges regularly

Prayagraj and Kausambi are the two police stations functioning exclusively to deal with power theft. Third in this list would be Ghaziabad. The station will be managed by technically sound personnel and selected police force. It is a herculean task for vigilance department to convince the technology behind power theft to local police force as power theft is totally different from conventional theft where the movement of physical quantity can be seen.

As many as 11295 Power theft have been detected this year and an amount of 546.4 million lost to power utilities of this state on account of power theft.
