Improve amenities, or shut your offices: Saryu Roy to Jamshedpur officials
Jamshedpur, July 21: State food and civil supplies minister cum MLA of Jamshedpur West Saryu Roy Sunday issued a warning to electricity department, drinking water and sanitation department and Mango Municipal Corporation officials to improve civic amenities within a week. He said the department heads should shut their offices and hand over the keys to the department secretaries in case they failed to improve the situation in a week.
Speaking to scribes at his Bistupur residence, Roy said it was next to impossible to improve power supply scenario in the city without being successful in stopping power theft. He said a special investigation team (SIT) was formed earlier to curb power thefts on his initiative. IPS Anil Palta was made president of the SIT. The SIT also gave its report a year ago and identified those guilty of power theft. But no action was ever taken against such people, he alleged, adding that power thefts continue even today.
Earlier today, Roy held a meeting with East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla to discuss about civic amenities being provided to the citizens in various localities of the city.
Roy alleged that power was mostly being stolen by small companies for running their induction furnace.
Speaking about drinking water scarcity, Roy said there were still many departmental lacunae that need to be addressed. He said the new contractor had taken over 15 days back and the situation had only worsened.
Roy said the motors installed in the various localities for supplying water into tanks were defunct. As a result, water supply has suffered, he said.
Roy said the work on setting up power sub-station sin Sonari and Gajadih was not as per agreement. He said he would raise the issue in the Assembly and speak to the department secretary. He said he had spoken to the Chief Secretary today in this regard.[Courtesy:The Avenue Mail]
