Thiruvananthapuram: Electricity charges in Kerala have been increased sharply. The power tariff has been increased by 6.8 percent. In Domestic sector, there will be an increase up to 40 paisa per unit. Foxed charges have also been increased on the basis of tariff slabs. The revised rates will not affect users consuming up to 40 units of electricity per month. Those using up to 50 units of power per month will witness an increase of Rs 5 in their next electricity bill. The revised rates will come to effect from Monday. The rates have been increased for three years. The revised rates is expected to provide the KSEB and additional income of Rs 902 crore. The revised rates will not be applicable for BPL families. Cancer patients and people confined to beds following grievous accidents will receive deductions .
