Power theft by women surprises JPS

The Jamaica Public Service Co. Ltd. is astonished by the unusual act of power theft by women. In separate cases, three women admitted guilty to abstracting electricity in court. While a woman and daughter have been without power for the past seven years, they have managed to run a store and a house by connecting JPS supply lines directly. This permits power to flow straight to their businesses and is considered one of the most hazardous techniques for stealing electricity. JPS discovered a few refrigerators, television sets, and deep freezers, all of which consumed power.

Another woman stated that she was aware of her wrongdoings and the unlawful nature of the activities, but proceeded owing to concerns with JPS.

The situation may have been averted if the JPS had generously treated the consumer’s complaints. Many other consumers booked for power theft responded to the court but did not plead guilty and had to go through trials, and their cases would be determined later.
